Align our mind and body

Today while I was babysitting two of my friend’s boys, I realised what the younger one was doing frequently. When we were playing with toys together with his brother, the younger one, Isaac kept on imitating whatever the brother did.

When the brother went up on to the bed, the young one will hurriedly climb up and go to the brother. When the brother threw the lego brick, the young one threw whatever that was in his hand too. And whenever the brother said, “Cheers mate!” when he was drinking his oat milk, the younger one too – as much as possible – imitated what the brother said.

Pondering on this, I found it very interesting. Because observational learning is one that, though by conventional knowledge we know is true, I think we should be more conscious about the fact that people learn from observing the actions of others.

And what I mean by that is that we should be a bit more careful, conscientious, and subtle in the decisions we make with our actions; especially when it is seen by others, or actions in the public eye. We can argue for something, but if our body and hands portray an action that opposes what we actually think; then via observational learning, the people who witness what we did will learn and accept that “We are what we do, and not what we said”.

On the contrary, because sometimes people accidentally do things that they don’t necessarily mean, and they do things that they do not necessarily would have done when they reflect upon it; we should also be conscious to dissect the fact that the actions of a person do not necessarily make your whole mind.

In an ideal world and as an ideal goal, I believe we should be aiming for alignment between what we truly think in our minds and what me practically do with our body. By achieving such perfect alignment between mind and body, we can then perhaps lead by our actions as well as our thoughts.
